An Award & Acceptance

I awake one recent morning, eyes barely open, skin still asleep and turn to my lover, the iPhone 6, she is the only one who knows the time and before thinking I am flicking through WhatsApp, Facebook & Instagram. I mindlessly succumb to my emails and see that I have won an award.

WTF?

CONGRATULATIONS!
If you are receiving this letter, it means that you have received an award in one OR MORE award categories from Docs Without Borders Film Festival.”.

This feels good. I start my day by accepting my award, via email, in my pyjamas, if you could call them that. Not quite the award acceptance I had dreamt of, but then again, little ever is how I dream it to be.

A few days later, I get an email from Films For Action who are interested in placing You Can’t Evict An Idea on their pay per view platform. Time to put on some happy music. I try to look for something that was made post 2007 and struggle. I land on Rihanna’s Umbrella and Spotify does the rest.

All of this is happening on the backdrop of the film’s acceptance in the International Initiative for Promoting Political Economy in Lille, France. Maybe when you say it in French it sounds more catchy? Its a conference with an associated activist film festival and they accepted my film. You Can’t Evict An Idea will be screened on July 3rd 2019.

My next blog will have the Films For Action link and some news about the IPPEE conference. Till then, au revoir.
